The Mission of Multiplication
The Mission of Multiplication
Imagine with me a field of dandelions in all their glory of vibrant yellow. Growing up, my dad did everything he could to keep them out of our yard. I loved them. He hated them. Why? Because dandelions are perennial weeds that spread rapidly and multiply both from seed and the roots yearly.
As a little girl, I loved it when dandelions went to seed. I clearly remember the joy of running around blowing the wispy seeds, mesmerized as the breeze took them “up, up and away.” Most of the floating puffs never landed around me but gently blew out of sight. Little did I know that those little seeds were on a mission of multiplication. This reminds me of the truth in Galatians 6:7-9, “You will reap what you sow.”
I love to sit in the stillness and listen to the Lord’s whisper. Lean in and hear what I heard Him speak to my heart …
“You will reap what you sow. I have placed the seeds of My Word in your hands … SOW BROADLY!
-
- Thrust the seeds out onto the soil where I have been cultivating.
- Don’t hold any of the seed – sow it all … only I know what will take root, grow and multiply.
- My view of sowing and reaping is
- All, everywhere and everyone
- Way past your capacity to see – way beyond discovery
- One that is not of this world – but encompasses all eternity
- Unbound by time or space
- My sovereign view and not yours to see ... except for tiny glimpses here and there, which are My incredible love gift to you.
Open your hands and look at all the seeds I have placed in your heart and hands. SOW them BROADLY… sow everywhere and into everyone around you with wild abandonment.”
I know now that the dandelion seeds I had so much fun blowing into the air as a little girl drifted and dropped into the ground producing a bountiful harvest, just like my dad said they would. We get to spread the seeds of God’s Word, confidently expecting an eternal harvest because God said it.
“The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grains to grow, produce seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with My Word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” Isaiah 55:10-11 NLT
Sometimes He gives us glimpses into His plan of sowing and reaping.
Recently I had lunch with my dear friend, Laurie. Thirty years ago, Laurie was invited to attend to our Spring Ridge Neighborhood Bible Study by her next-door neighbor. A month later, she placed her faith in Christ at my kitchen table. Over the next several years her husband, parents and young children began to follow Jesus as a direct result of God’s Word transforming her life. Her family has since moved several times, and in each new place Laurie has begun a NBS with many coming to Christ and Bible studies growing out of these plantings.
Imagine 30 years from now having lunch with one of your former neighbors who came to Christ because you began a Neighbor Bible Study. I’m wondering what stories you would hear of how our steps of faith to sow seeds has multiplied.
Has God awakened your heart to sow seeds for eternity?
