History of NBS2GO

During a casual walk on the beach in May 2010, God ignited a vision within Debbie McGoldrick that would grow to become NBS2GO. Debbie walked and enjoyed vacationing at her parents’ home in Florida – watching the sunrise, adding to her collection of heart-shaped shells and rocks, and watching her father fish in the surf. God used those three experiences to give Debbie a vision.

That vision grew out of her many years of leading and helping others to begin neighborhood Bible studies. God told Debbie, “I am awakening an unprecedented number of hearts in neighborhoods and I have given you the passion, 22 years of experience, and simple tools to help encourage and equip women to grow and multiply neighborhood Bible studies globally.”

Debbie has helped dozens of women begin neighborhood Bible study groups for years through numerous workshops in North Atlanta churches. She hosted meetings in her home to encourage and equip new leaders. Yet Debbie knew this call from God was different. He was asking her to broaden the ministry worldwide.

God told Debbie to share this vision with her leadership team when she returned home to the Atlanta area. She asked these leaders to go away with her for 24 hours of prayer, fasting, and listening to God for more direction. Through this time of listening, God birthed the idea to create a website that would provide resources to equip women to begin, grow, and multiply neighborhood Bible study groups all around the world.

Creating the website was truly a faith-walk for Debbie and the leadership team. While they had nearly 80 years of combined experience in leading their own groups, they knew virtually nothing about designing a website. Thankfully, God brought another group of women together who volunteered to serve as an intercessory prayer team. They all watched as God provided everything needed – from a volunteer programmer, graphic designer, web design team, writers, and more.

Through Facebook, Twitter, and other social media, interest and excitement began to mount for NBS2GO. At the beginning of 2013, nbs2go.com was launched.

As the ministry continued to grow, Bible studies were translated into other languages and uploaded to the site in 2016. The focus of NBS2GO broadened to include not only women, but also men, the workplace, couples, students, and children. Reach the People Around You. Begin a Bible Study Group, became central on the updated website in 2019.

    Debbie McGoldrick, Founder

Debbie’s heart for taking the Word of God to her neighbors began at an early age. Her love for evangelism eventually led her to teach and disciple friends in high school and college, where her passion for spiritual multiplication began.

In 1976, Debbie and her husband Mark began serving with Cru®. Since 1989, Debbie has been planting and watering seeds of love and truth in the hearts of her neighbors by leading a neighborhood Bible study group. Through the years Debbie has mentored and challenged other women to create neighborhood Bible study groups where women can begin and grow in a relationship with Christ. Now more than 200 Bible study groups exist. The bushels of fruit – the process of multiplication continues as hundreds of women are growing in their faith, lives and families are changing, and neighborhoods are being transformed into caring communities. In 2017, with joy, she witnessed members of her Bible study group taking the lead as facilitators, enabling her to focus on US and global connections with NBS2GO.

Debbie and her husband give leadership to Cru City Atlanta. Debbie has served as a national leader within Cru, is the founder of NBS2GO, and teaches and speaks worldwide on loving God, His Word, and neighbors. Blessed to be married to Mark for more than half her life, she is the mother of two married children and now Dee Dee to her grandchildren, Maddox, Rowan, Joshua, and Caleb.

Debbie loves God’s promise in Isaiah 55:11 and she continually claims it for His Word planted through Neighbor Bible Studies:

“I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all that I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it,” Isaiah 55:11.

  • Lydia Eaton, Administrator

    Lydia Eaton, Administrator

At the end of days spent at home with three young children, Lydia has discovered how much she needs the truth of the gospel and the Holy Spirit to help her get through every single day.

She finds the Lord continually reminding her that He asks only one thing of her:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30).

From this starting point, Lydia seeks to be obedient to God’s leading and commands, including the next verse,

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31).

  • Sherri Edwards, Training & Development Coordinator

Sherri Edwards, Training & Development Coordinator

As a southerner who grew up in a small town in north Alabama, Sherri experienced early on the soul-filling value and strength of family, community and a good, snuggly dog. It's no surprise that she now works full-time for the NBS2GO (Neighbor Bible Studies to Go) ministry whose vision is to see every community around the world transformed by the power of God's Word.

Sherri's journey with the NBS2GO team began after spending  thirteen years in the workplace as an exercise physiologist with cardiac rehabilitation, then most recently as a clinical specialist with several medical device companies. Experiencing firsthand the life-giving refreshment of God's love, Sherri is committed to helping others know God's love as well. Sherri enjoys talking about all aspects of heart health, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, and also believes that a simple small piece of dark chocolate can do a world of good!

Sherri's experience and skill in empowering leaders in the marketplace led her to join NBS2GO in order to empower and equip leaders to cultivate a deeper walk with God and help others do the same.

Sherri has learned that successes, failures, triumphs and tragedies are all used by God to refine us, but not define us.  She has found great peace in knowing that her worth and value are forever established by God's love for her.

Sherri now calls Atlanta, Georgia home where she lives with her playful little beagle, Snickers. She enjoys running, swimming, gardening and laughing with friends and family.

"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10

  • Melody Hatcher, Neighboring Specialist

    Melody Hatcher, Neighboring Specialist

If Melody could do only one thing the rest of her life, it would be to love others. She thinks she has the best job in the world getting to do just that: love the neighbors whom God has strategically placed around her in her spheres of influence. She is thankful that God has brought her to Tampa, FL, and the diverse neighborhood she claims as a residence.

As the Neighboring Specialist, Melody loves creating new things that bring
beauty and further God’s kingdom on earth. She pulls from her teaching experiences, overseas travels, and almost two decades of cross-cultural relationship building.

As a grateful wife and proud mom, Melody sees prioritization as the key to being a good neighbor. She believes that as she absorbs God’s love and its benefits holistically, she can squeeze that love out like a sponge into the lives of others.

"When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings." 1 Corinthians 9:22-23

  • Caitlyn Joiner, Moms Connector

    Caitlyn Joiner, Moms Connector

With two young daughters at home, Caitlyn began to wonder what the Lord had in store for her.

How could God continue to use her even during the toddler years?

Caitlyn and her husband, Chris, had been serving in high school ministry with Cru for nine years. In the fall of 2018, Caitlyn sensed the Lord leading her to transition to NBS2GO. Being a mom was a huge part of this decision. Caitlyn's capacity for ministry on campus changed, but not her heart.

Caitlyn figured it out, and you can too! She desires to see women flourish in their sphere of influence, especially motherhood. Ministry does not stop when you become a mom, it increases your ability to relate to another group of people. Whether it's running into someone at the grocery store, in carpool line, at the park, or at the gym, we can be intentional. We all know motherhood can be lonely. God always gives opportunity when we ask Him for it.

Caitlyn is passionate about seeing others right where they are and initiating meaningful conversations that prayerfully lead to Jesus. She and her husband Chris are currently leading the East Atlanta Community Group through Passion City Church- a Bible study for those in their neighborhood. They have been married for 11 years and have two girls, Evie (6) and Nora (3).

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" Romans 10:17 KJV.

  • Pam McCune, Partnership Specialist

    Pam McCune, Partnership Specialist

As a wife, mother, author, speaker, and recovering perfectionist, Pam knows what it is to balance the pressures of family life, ministry/work and a relationship with God. Through the power of God’s Word, friendships with women and chocolate, she has learned to rest in God's everlasting arms and help guide others to that same peace.

Experiencing first-hand how God’s Word changed her life, Pam has committed her adulthood to helping others discover a deeper relationship with God through His Word. Her years as a women’s ministry director, Bible teacher, small group discipleship leader and Christian communicator have led her to NBS2GO.

Pam has learned in over 40 years of running toward God that He can use anyone, especially a very successful failure, who is willing to share the life-changing power of God’s Word with others.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me" 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10 NIV.

The Pineywoods of East Texas has been home to Pam and her husband, Jerry. This is where they raised their daughter and son, and currently live with their storm-stressed Maltese, Beau.

  • Joan Parsons, Communications Director & Writer

Joan Parsons, Communications Director & Writer

In 1990, Joan joined Cru staff.  In 2007, though she felt like a big chicken, Joan knew that she wanted to step out in faith and begin a neighborhood Bible study group. With her palms sweating, she handed out flyers and prayed. Three women came, including herself and her co-leader. God showed up then and He shows up now…with quite a few more than three.

It is more than increased numbers for which she is grateful - it is that her neighbors know there is a safe place to come with their questions about God. She desires to provide an environment where women can begin or deepen their walk with Christ through studying God’s Word, build friendships with one another, and influence their families for Christ. Joan is a recent widow and mother to three boys and a girl.

“Without faith it is impossible to please God” Hebrews 11:6 NIV.

  • Linda Shaffer, Global Connector

    Linda Shaffer, Global Connector

Linda believes that God’s Word holds the answers to all our needs. She joined Cru staff in 1985 and after living overseas for 19 years, she returned to the United States with a desire to create a caring community of neighbors by hosting a Bible study.

For several years, she thought of all kinds of reasons why it wasn’t the right time. Soon after, a friend challenged her by asking, “Hey, when are you going to start that Bible study you keep talking about?” Linda stepped out in faith and began. It’s been exciting for her to see women from five different countries gather to study the Word of God, pray for and serve one another. Linda loves spending time with her husband Walter, their four grown children, and one teenaged son. She also enjoys tennis and snorkeling.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart” Psalms 37:4 ESV.

What is NBS2GO?

NBS2GO = Neighbor Bible Studies 2GO. This website is the simple packaging of ideas, resources, and inspiration to equip believers to launch and multiply Bible study groups.

What's the big deal about a neighbor Bible study group?

A neighbor Bible study group brings together a wide range of seekers and Christ-followers to study, discuss, and encourage one another toward life application of God’s Word. This blending of spiritual maturity levels creates a dynamic, life-transforming community. Friendships are formed, and group members are equipped to minister to others where they do life.
