The Power of One Word

The Power of One Word

This summer, our study was challenged to pray one word for each another. For many of us, it was hard to think of just one word to summarize our need before the Lord.

My own word for prayer is DIRECTION.

The Lord has used this one-word prayer idea two ways in my life. First, it’s been a great way to ask family, friends and missionaries for a way to pray for them. It is an easy way to keep a list of names and one word to bring before the Lord. As soon as I think of someone’s name, I think of their one word. It is also a great follow-up conversation starter.

Praying HandsSecondly, as I know a person’s one-word prayer, it leads me as I’m reading the Bible to pray scripture for them. For example, one family member asked me to pray for growth. As I was reading Colossians 2:7 “Let your roots GROW down into Him and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will GROW strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness,” it led me to pray this verse for him. For my own one-word prayer, I am grateful for God’s promise in Psalm 16:11, “You will show me the path of life (direction); in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”

I am not certain of my direction in life, but I know Who is and Who will be faithful to show me in His perfect time.

What is your one word? Share it with us in the comments and allow us to pray it for you as a community of believers!
