Prayer-Walking: Is Your Neighborhood the “Hakuna Matata” Place?

Prayer-Walking: Is Your Neighborhood the "Hakuna Matata" Place?

Can you imagine the place where you live to be problem-free? Worry-free? Jeremiah says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by the water that sends its roots out by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Of course, life is never problem- or worry-free.

But because we have access to an all-knowing and sovereign Father, we can cast our cares upon Him, and He will care for us. We also have the privilege to lift up our neighbors and their cares to Him.

Many of us here at NBS2go, are committed to prayer-walking. The plan is simple and has helped many people with their desires to make prayer a priority. The following is a list of ideas from our website to help you get started.

Make a plan to begin prayer walking on a regular basis.

Pray for people by name when possible, asking God to give you opportunities to serve, give and build relationships with them. Prayerfully follow through.

Pray for God’s blessings and protection on each home and family.

Pray that God would open hearts and create a hunger to know Him.

Pray for homes that are for sale:

  • Remove and keep out all evil
  • Move in those hungry to know Christ
  • Move in and raise up vibrant believers to join your study

We are Christ’s ambassadors in our neighborhoods. God has a purpose for where you live! Scripture tells us in Acts 17:26-31 that God not only determines the times we are to live, but also the places where we live, work and play. You are Jesus “with skin on” to your neighbors. Remember, the most loving thing you can do for your neighbors is to pray for them and introduce them to Christ.

Joan Parsons, with three teenagers under her roof — and one away at college! — is thankful for her husband and naps. Between laundry loads and fixing beef, you might find her in the McDonald’s drive-through ordering a coke with extra ice and a chocolate chip cookie … because this is her happy place.
