Listening Journal: Chainsaw or Chimes?

Listening Journal: Chainsaw or Chimes?

I often wonder….what if my desire to listen to God equaled His longing to speak personally with me? Listening prayer for me is simply being still in God’s presence, anticipating His voice, recording His words, impressions, or pictures, and then responding in love, faith and obedience to what He whispers. It’s absolutely amazing — I always receive exactly what my heart is longing for — sweet companionship, fresh encouragement and specific guidance. I’m praying that this excerpt from my “Listening Journal” will encourage you to begin a practice of listening to God. –Debbie

Father I come to You, sitting beside a lake, still, silent, and listening….

Middle School Band                   Symphony of Praise

Holy Spirit, what are You saying to me through what I am hearing?

“I have Created you,

              Called you,

              Commissioned you

…to be a symphony of praise

…to live out the songs of heaven

… to bring into every relationship,

every home,

every opportunity I give you

a soothing,

a peaceful,

free-flowing song

from the depths of your heart, your walk with Me, out of how I’ve designed you to be–to have a calming, captivating effect that draws everyone who hears your song

                                    to Me

to the Truths of My Word

to want to learn the song so they can sing it from their hearts to all those they love, those  hard to love, or those who happen to cross paths with them.

Keep singing!

I hear the songs from your heart being sung around the world. Like the ripples you see in the water right now — spreading ever wider — eventually splashing on the shoreline as far as you can see, all from one passing boat. I see from my vantage point how these songs you live out and sing are spreading throughout the world in ever widening circles.

Blessings, my daughter!

You don’t have to try to perform or learn to play these songs. I’ve written them on your heart and designed your instrument to sing and play them effortlessly!

Keep playing!

Playing is feeling My pleasure — unaware of anyone’s watchful eye or burdensome expectations.

Feel free! Be free of all fear and worry or of over-practicing and preparing to sing and play.

 I’ve made you for Me,

    for this,

for eternity past, present, and future.

My songs in and through you are timeless

Keep Singing and Playing My Melodies of Praise.

I love you!”

What are the songs God has created/called/commissioned you to sing? How has He uniquely designed your instrument and who is your audience?

Play and sing His songs on His instrument with freedom, joy, and delight under the direction of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you. Dare to envision the ripple effects!
