A Split-Second Revelation

A Split-Second Revelation

How much fruit can your branch hold?

A revelation came to me during prayer….I mean, a true lightning bolt, split-second revelation!

Burdened, exhausted and overwhelmed with the work God had called me to do… I was literally at a breaking point. Ever felt that way?

Maybe right now you feel like a branch weighed down with all your responsibilities, your family and the pressing needs around you. That’s exactly where I was.

During a time of prayer with two friends, the revelation hit me as I prayed,  “Father, You are the Vine and I am just a little branch…I’m clinging to You, knowing You will infuse me with strength.” (John 15)

It was at that moment that the revelation came. I saw my branch, attached to the Vine, weighted down and about to break. The heaviness I was feeling was not from the fruit born out of my attachment to the Vine, but from the additional fruit I had “tied on.”

This revelation pinpointed my problem and gave me an immediate solution, which was: Untie the “tied on” fruit. It became clear to me that this “tied on” fruit was the result of my doing, not God’s. I had said “yes” to “I should” and “I ought to,” adding on to the “good works God had given me to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

This revelation affirmed to me that my branch is strong enough to hold the fruit God ordained to bear through me, but not for the additional fruit I so easily can “tie on.”

Do you feel burdened, exhausted or overwhelmed?

  • Examine the fruit hanging from your branch.
  • Identify the “tied on” fruit, confess it and untie it.
  • Embrace this God-given revelation and watch your branch spring back up!
  • Share this word picture with a friend whose branch could use this kind of a lift!

  John 15:5;  John 17:4;  Ephesians 2:8-10
