How God Does Math

How God Does Math

Every once in a while, we take time to remember.

We remember the good ol’ days. We remember our children growing up. We remember pivotal moments and big decisions, as well as the little things along the way – details that made all the difference in the world.

DSC_0038We recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Neighborhood Bible Study initiated by Debbie McGoldrick, founder of NBS2GO, and the 75+ Neighborhood Bible Studies that have been born of that single study. We took time to marvel at the number of people who have moved (truly) to the ends of the earth, carrying with them basic tools to facilitate a group of people studying the Bible together.

There were so many people at the celebration who had been influenced, touched or directly impacted by the faithfulness of that group of ladies who has been meeting for 25 years.

DSC_0034We heard as husbands witnessed their wives changed by that NBS – and who were reconciled to Christ as a result.

We watched videos from missionaries from England to Cambodia who have taken the vision of NBS2GO, the acrostics and the basic model and have started Neighborhood Bible Studies the world over.

Our eyes brimmed as Neighborhood Bible Study kids revealed the spiritual wisdom caught and taught growing up.

Our hearts soared as friend after friend stood up and testified to the lives transformed by the vision of NBS2GO – God’s vision: Loving God. Loving Neighbors.

Debbie has a favorite analogy involving apples. Do you know how many seeds are inside an apple? Each apple contains about four to six seeds. Do you know how many apples come from each seed?

There is no way of knowing how many bushels of apples may come from each seed.

DSC_0322That’s the kind of math in God’s economy: 1 Neighborhood Bible Study + 25 Years = 75+ new Bible study groups (and counting!) = countless numbers of men, women and children transformed by relationships with Christ.

As we take time to remember God’s faithfulness, there is no way we can know the impact of current actions on future events. We can know that being a part of what God is doing to awaken hearts all over the world will yield bushels and bushels of fruit. How awesome would it be if 5, 10, 25 years from now, your neighbors, your friends’ kids, your family could stand up and say, through that one little Neighborhood Bible Study, I got to know Jesus or I deepened my faith or I found the courage to witness to others? Can you imagine?

We can.

Will you join us in planting seeds of faith in your neighborhood?

Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5

I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago. Psalm 77:11

Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me. Psalm 103:2
